Breast reduction surgery typically takes about 3 hours, depending on the level of correction needed and the complexity of the procedure.  If your breast reduction is being performed with other procedures, as in the case of a mommy makeover, the total time of your appointment may vary. Since breast reduction is most often performed as an outpatient procedure, you can expect to head home the same day as your surgery.

Yes, breast reduction surgery is best done under general anesthesia.  A breast reduction is a surgical procedure that can take between 2-4 hours to perform.  For your comfort and safety, general anesthesia is usually recommended.  However, most breast lifts are still considered outpatient procedures and you should be able to go home the same day to recover at home.

You'll need at least a week of downtime. It’s normal to feel sore after your breast reduction. Your surgeon will provide you with post-operative instructions and ask you to wear a special supportive bra to help you feel more comfortable. Most women take a few days off from work to rest, but you can resume your regular daily routine after that. Exercise and any activities that involve lifting the arms overhead should wait a bit longer.
