BMI Calculator
Calculate Your Body Mass Index
Your Body Mass Index (BMI) is used to help determine if you are a good candidate for an elective plastic surgery procedure. Calculating your BMI can help you gauge areas of your health you may need to work on prior to pursuing cosmetic surgery.
- Normal: If your BMI falls in the “normal” category, you may be a good candidate for most procedures.
- Overweight or Underweight: You should consult with a board certified cosmetic surgeon to determine if you are a candidate for a procedure if your BMI is categorized as either “overweight” or “underweight.”
- Obese: If your BMI is calculated in the “obese” range, it is recommended that you bring your BMI to a healthier category before pursuing a cosmetic procedure.
If your BMI is too high, surgical risks and complications may arise, including problems with wound healing, infections, or fluids settling. Maintaining a stable, healthy weight can dramatically decrease any potential problems that may arise during or after plastic surgery. The chart below can be used to compare your BMI to your ideal based on your height and weight.
