What are your options for Implant Removal?
Simple Explant Surgery
This is the most straightforward option—the surgeon simply removes the breast implants. This procedure may be performed under local or general anesthesia, depending on your specific situation. It's important to note that a simple explant may leave your breasts looking deflated compared to their appearance with implants.
Implant Replacement
Instead of removing implants completely, some women choose to replace them with new ones. This might be done to address complications or simply to change the size or type of implant. Sometimes, special surgical mesh is used during revision surgery to help maintain the implant's position long-term.
Explant with Breast Lift
Many women choose to combine implant removal with a breast lift (mastopexy). This procedure removes excess skin and raises the nipple position for a more youthful breast appearance. A breast lift can significantly improve the shape of your breasts after implant removal.
Explant with Fat Transfer
In this procedure, the surgeon removes your implants and then uses fat from another part of your body (like your abdomen or thighs) to add natural volume to your breasts. This can help prevent the deflated appearance that sometimes occurs after implant removal.
"After having breast implants for 17 years I was extremely scared of removing them. I really wanted the implants gone, but really worried about how I would look and feel without them. What finally made me take them out was when I realized I might have BII (breast implant illness). I know BII is not medically recognized as an illness, but the way I was feeling it was worth removing my implants and facing ugly breast forever.
I went to 2 previous consultations prior to meeting Dr. Truong, and the other 2 PS scared me so much and insisted I would need another implant and a lift. When I finally met with Dr. Truong he listened to my concerns analysis my breast tissue and gave me a lot of hope. No implant needed he said and may not need a lift, but even if I did need a lift I would have to wait 12 months after explant. That was something I could live with.
Well it’s been 4 weeks since my explant and I couldn’t be happier. Explant and Capsulectomy PS are hard to find. Dr. Truong was so confident that he completely put me at ease. He treated me accordingly and independently to my needs."
