After breast augmentation surgery, many patients worry that their implants may look too high and when they will “drop and fluff” into their final position. The term “drop and fluff” refers to the natural process of settling that occurs as your chest muscles relax, any swelling and inflammation subside, and the implants fill the lower pole of the breast, making them look softer and more natural.

When do breast implants ‘drop”?
Following your surgery, it is typical for the implants to appear higher than expected and to have a different shape. This is due to the pectoralis muscles being tight and the soft tissue being swollen after your procedure. This can be more frequent when the implants are inserted under the muscles, as well as when they are placed in sub-glandular implant placement.
At Chicago Breast and Body, our team will provide a comprehensive guide on the breast augmentation healing process, including a timeline for drop and fluff. However, since everyone heals differently, please don’t hesitate to contact your surgeon if you have any concerns.

Your breasts will continue to “drop” and “fluff” throughout the first 3-6 months after your breast augmentation.
